Aire Membercaire!

Audio Membercare Resources via Radio and the Web

In an effort to break Membercare out of the counseling session mode, about 6+ years ago TWR-Europe began its "MCBR" (MemCareByRadio) initiative.  The goal was to provide Membercare related programming via a daily 15 minute radio program.  I signed on early as the "content coordinator" to help out, and somehow ended up doing a weekly program for the last four years.  I never would have agreed to this if I had known it would go on this long!  But, at the same time it has been a lot of fun.  I have managed to find ways to talk about over 40 topics during this time.  If my wife or kids were here, they would say that wasn't hard for me to do.  I wonder what they mean by that?

What are the topics?  Glad you asked!  Here are a few of my favorites:  Minivacations, sexual wholeness for men, forgiveness, grace, crisis, homesickness, disappointment, language learning, gratitude, burden bearing, resilience, growth after crisis, making stock (planning out your year using the metaphor of making soup -- one of my favorite favorites!), aging parents, transformational leadership, and marriage.  We have copies of all the audio files, and many of them have accompanying scripts.  Not all are online at the moment, but the wonderful MCBR team is working on that.

What's so special about radio/audio?  I have always enjoyed listening to voices (no, I didn't say hearing voices!).  I imagine there is something soothing about hearing someone who sounds trustworthy explaining in simple terms how to manage or surmount daily living struggles.  At least that is what people say about the programs.  I prepare my programs so that you, the listener, will say to yourself "Hmm, that is a great idea.  I can do that tomorrow, and maybe have a better day!"

It is not just about me.  There are probably 20 other speakers, many of whom have programs on the website.  You can go there and search for a program related to your concerns and listen in.  And then go out and seize the day!

Sometimes it seems and feels like life comes at you all at once.  At those times, a short 10 minute interlude spent listening to some helpful hints for the day may be just the ticket.  Happy listening!  www.membercareradio.org.
